How to apply for a bonus for newborns in Italy in 2026: instructions from INPS

The Italian National Institute of Social Security - INPS - has officially announced the opening of applications for the "Bonus for newborns 2026" (Bonus nuovi nati 2026). The corresponding announcement was published on 14 April 2026 under number 1268.

The program provides for a one-time payment of 1,000 euros for each child born, adopted or placed in preliminary guardianship (affidamento preadottivo) in the period from 1 January to 31 December 2026.

Who is eligible for the payment

To apply for the bonus, the family must meet the following requirements:

• have a valid ISEE (income indicator for the family) for family payments and child support;
• the ISEE must not exceed 40,000 euros;
• when calculating the ISEE, amounts received under the Assegno Unico Universale program are not taken into account.

If the established income limit is exceeded, the right to receive the payment is automatically lost.

Submission deadlines Applications

You must submit your application no later than 120 days after one of the following events:

• the birth of the child;
• adoption;
• the transfer of the child to preliminary guardianship.

If the application is submitted later than the established deadline, the family will lose the right to receive the benefit.

For families who had a child before the official launch of the INPS service, a special deadline has been established: documents must be submitted by August 12, 2026. In this case, the 120-day countdown begins from the date of publication of the INPS message.

How to apply for the bonus

Either parent can submit the application. If the parents live separately, the application must be submitted by the parent with whom the child officially resides.

Documents can only be submitted online or through official INPS channels:

• through the INPS portal using the digital identification SPID level 2 or higher, CIE 3.0, CNS or eIDAS;
• through the INPS mobile application in the "Bonus nuovi nati" section;
• through the contact center:
• number 803 164 - free from a landline;
• number 06 164 164 - for calls from a mobile phone according to the operator's tariff;
• through accredited nursing organizations (patronato), which help process documents free of charge.

Important Recommendations
