The Empire is a region in Italy, serving as the capital of its eponymous province. Imperia is situated along the Italian Riviera, known as the Riviera dei Fiori, positioned to the east of San Remo.
The primary occupation of the locals revolves around cultivating olive groves and tending to flower gardens.
The inception of Imperia dates back to 1923, formed through the amalgamation of the ancient towns of Porto Maurizio and Oneglia. The province acquired its grandiose name from Mussolini, inspired by the Imperio River that flows nearby. Inhabitants have resided in this area since the days of ancient Rome. Subsequently, the territory was under the jurisdiction of the bishops of Albenga, followed by the Genoese Doria patricians. Notably, this region was the residence of the renowned admiral, Andrea Doria.
Presently, the province thrives primarily due to international tourists who frequent the Empire. Notable architectural landmarks include the splendid Cathedral of St. Mauritius, erected in 1781 in a classicist style. Equally impressive is the estate of Grock, a Swiss clown.
Additionally, visitors can explore one of the most advanced water sports facilities in the nation within this province.
