Ferrara province is situated close to the Adriatic Sea in the northeastern part of Italy.
The landscape mainly consists of flatlands where the Po River and its numerous branches like Reno and Panaro flow. The Ferrara region also features several irrigation canals for the land. Wetlands are also plentiful. The soil in the province is exceptionally rich.
In the early 1900s, the fertile lands in Ferrara primarily grew wheat, rice, and grapes. Silk production, fishing, animal husbandry, and salt manufacturing are also thriving activities in the area.
When in Ferrara, a must-visit is the d'Este Palace Municipal Castle, constructed in the northern part of Ferrara close to the cathedral. The d'Este family resided in the castle until the early 16th century, after which they relocated to the nearby Estense Castle.
Another notable site is the Torre dei Leoni tower, dating back to the 13th century, forming part of the city's defensive structures.
The Ferrara Cathedral is also a significant landmark in the province, built in the 12th century with an exquisite marble front. The cathedral showcases a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. A prominent feature of the front is the portico adorned with the Madonna statue.
